Garage doors play a pivotal role in helping your home have increased curb appeal. They are a great way to show off an aesthetic that matches your home, but where do you start in the journey to find the perfect fit? We’re happy to offer a variety of garage door options through C.H.I. Overhead Doors, including fully customized garage doors so you can get exactly what you’re looking for! Our website has an easy-to-use tool that helps you not only create a door, but preview it on your home to see if it is something you want to move forward with. Read along to find out how to customize your garage door!
1. Collect Measurements
Before you start designing your dream door, you’ll need to record some specs to help you get an accurate idea of what you’ll need. Try to measure the exact width and height of your door. Also, snap a photo of your home’s exterior (we’ll use this later)!
2. Gather Garage Door Style Inspiration
Next, visit our Gallery page to spark some inspiration. What would look best on your home? A wooden door, a specific color, a door with windows? Panels? Pick out your favorite styles, colors, and materials that you think would complement your home best.
3. Select a Garage Door Size
Now we’ve reached the fun part where you get to start designing your door. Head to our designing tool and either type in your garage door’s exact measurements or choose from a single door or double door. Keep in mind that depending on the size of your door, some models and configurations may not be available. Most “single car” doors range from 8’ to 10’ wide, and most “double car” doors range from 16’ to 18’ wide.
4. Pick a Garage Door Style
Next, you’ll need to pick the garage door style you were drawn to. There are multiple styles within each collection that come with their own customization options including windows, colors, materials, etc.
5. Add Windows, Thermal Requirements, Colors, Glass Type, and More
Once you have your style selected, you can get into the personalization of your door. What style of windows will you want your door to have? How insulated do you want your door to be? Choose from either solid colors or accent woodtones, and select a glass type if your garage will have windows (frosted, tinted, plain, etc.). And lastly, your design choice may have you select exterior hardware like hinges, handles, pull rings, or brackets.
6. View a Preview on Your Home
Now that your garage door is created, it’s time to see what it looks like on your home! Select the place on home button and upload your own image. Adjust the red rectangle so that the four corners line up with your current door and choose whether your door is rectangular, has angled corners, or has an arched top. Hit the update button and then click the place on home button. You should now be able to see a preview of your new door on your home!
7. Download Your Summary
Continue this process until you’re completely satisfied with the customized door you created, and then you can download, print, or email your summary for your own records or to send to a friend or family member to get their opinion! Your summary will include the model number, all specifications, and a photo of the door on its own as well as the preview image on your home.
