A garage can be used for many different purposes aside from being a place to house your vehicle. People use their garage for storing tools, bikes, lawn equipment and more. Learn more on how you can make the most of the space in your garage with these storage tips.

Begin with Sorting

Arrange contents into piles of related items. This will make it easier to decide where things will go based on how many contents you have in each category. Sorting can also lead to cleaning out old items that don’t work or you don’t use anymore.

Hang Bicycles from the Ceiling

Free up even more space by hanging your bikes from your garage ceiling. To hang your bikes from the ceiling you’ll need heavy-duty bike hooks, long screws, sheet rocks, anchors and scrap plywood blocks and a few tools including a screwdriver, drill, stud finder and tape measure. Follow the instructions below to successfully hang your bikes.

  1. Locate the studs in your garage’s ceiling and mark with a pencil where to place the screws.
  2. Measure the space between your bike tires.
  3. Pre-drill holes in the plywood for the bike hook and for the screws to attach the wood to the ceiling/studs. This will help avoid splitting the wood.
  4. Once you attache the plywood in the ceiling in a few places, screw the bike hook into your pre-drilled holes.
